Custom Print Denim Bleaching Stencil Tutorial | FASHION DIY

I have been experimenting with denim jeans lately and this technique I thought I would share this with you all.

Crosses have become a very popular trend at the moment but this custom denim method can be used with any pattern you can think of and create some unique styles to wear.

This is a fashion DIY project to upcycle your old denim clothing and save more clothing going into the landfill.

HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN CROSS PATTERN CUT-OFF JEAN SHORTS

Supplies you need
  • Old denim jeans or shorts
  • Scissors
  • Paper
  • Clear plastic contact book wrap
  • Bleach
Tutorial on making custom print denim jeans

1| Measure & cut your back jeans pocket with a piece of paper. Fold in half and cut your pattern out. You could do a normal cross an inverted cross or whichever you like

2| Place your paper template over some plastic clear book cover contact and trace out the pattern and pocket shape. Cut 2 templates remembering to flip the paper so it fits both pockets

3| Cut each stencil out of the sticky plastic book cover

4| Peel and stick the plastic down on each pocket, you can use marker points to get it even and in the centre

5| Take your denim outside and lay flat. Spray with pure bleach over the plastic stencil. Do not spray too much otherwise the bleach could bleed under the plastic. You could even sponge the bleach on if you like.

6| Leave the denim piece of clothing to let the bleach work its magic. Check regularly until you get the desired result. All denim takes a different amount of time to lighten so just keep checking

7| Peel off plastic and wash

I think for a fun DIY fashion experiment these turned out well. They would have looked better if the cross was inverted and the lines thinner, but you live and you learn. So many patterns come to mind to use this bleaching DIY technique for, I hope you all have fun experimenting with it.

What bleaching pattern would you like to try?
