No-Cook Bridal Shower Candy Diamond Ring Cake: A DIY Tutorial for Your Bachelorette weekend getaways
Are you looking for an easy cake to make for your bestie's Bridal Shower? Or are you and all your girlfriends taking the bride away for a weekend getaway but have no idea what to do about the cake to celebrate?
Well, I've got you! I have created a tutorial of a wedding ring shape candy cake that you can make the day of your event, on a budget under $25 and best of all, it's super adorable and delicious and there is NO cooking involved.
The story behind the wedding ring cake:
Long story short, GIRL's WEEKEND AWAY! 😂
Okay well, it's a bit of a longer story than that but basically who wants to cook while away with the ladies or organise a bakery order from a different state before you go? Not me that's for sure 😁 There's enough to organise without the stress of a cake.
So with a bit of research into no-cook cakes for Bridal Showers before we had the trip and not coming up with anything I liked I decided to get creative and figure out how I could do something cute myself without any stress on the day. Our itinerary was gamed packed and I knew that I have approximately 1 hour between breakfast and decorating the hotel room for the surprise Bridal Shower to get the supplies I needed and make it.
We were flying to a different state and staying on the Gold Coast at Peppers Soul, which is the main strip of Surfers Paradise in QLD Australia, great location and the heart of everything. Which meant I had a main grocery store less than 5 mins walk away. Score!! This is important info when planning any weekend away, know the local food stores and alcohol shops 🍹lol
Once I found the closest grocery store (Woollies) I knew I could buy premade cakes at an affordable price and decorate it to suit the pre-wedding event. If you have followed this blog, you may have seen my previous cake hacks and how it's the easiest way to go when you're busy.
With a little more research on Pinterest for inspiration, I came across some number lolly candy cakes that were trending and knew I could change the shape to make a wedding ring design. Looked easy enough and it was!
Who is this cake hack recipe for?
- Perfect for anyone who wants to make a show-stopping dessert without spending hours in the kitchen.
- Great for anyone travelling on a weekend getaway and will not have access to an oven
- Anyone who does not have cake decorating skills and needs an easy alternative
- Budget-conscious bridesmaids who have already spent a lot of money on the bridal shower & wedding
- It's great to make if you are driving to a remote location and can buy supplies at the closest town, to make it when you get to your destination
This cake recipe is perfect for beginners and won't break the bank, costing $25 to $30. You'll need a few simple ingredients, such as a store-bought sponge cream cake, Madeira cake, chocolate balls, chocolate swirls, mini meringues, candy sugar hearts, and a tub of premade frosting. In terms of equipment, all you need is a large cake plate or serving platter, a small offset spatula or butter knife, a knife to cut the Madeira cake into a diamond shape, and a drinking glass to cut the centre circle out of the round cream cake.
Pairings:
This no-cook bridal shower wedding ring candy cake pairs perfectly with a cup of hot tea or coffee. For a fun addition to a bridal shower or wedding celebration, serve the cake alongside a glass of wine or champagne or just skull your favourite cocktail, who cares, it's cake. Eat it with whatever you want it will taste good! 😀 haha
Instructions on to make your
Wedding Ring Shaped Candy Lolly Cake
Price: Approx $25-$30
Time: 15 - 30 mins
Ingredients:
- 1 x shop-purchased sponge cream cake ($4) Woolworths bakery brand
- 1 x shop purchased Madeira cake ($2) Woolworths bakery brand
- Chocolate balls ($2.50) Maltesers small pack on special
- Chocolate swirls ($3) Curly Wurly swirls small pack on special
- Mini meringues ($4) Woolworths brand
- Mini Biscuits ($3) Tee Vee Krispy Kreme snacks donut shaped
- 1 tub of premade frosting ($5) Betty Crocker Vanilla
- Candy sugar hearts ($2) Triple Hearts Lollies
Equipment needed:
- 1 large cake plate or serving platter
- A small offset spatula or butter knife
- A sharp knife to cut the Madeira cake into a diamond shape
- A drinking glass to cut the centre circle out of a round cream cake
Directions:
- Start by arranging the premade sponge cream cake on the cake plate or serving platter. The platter needs to have enough room to have the diamond placed on top of the ring.
- Cut the Madeira cake on each edge at an angle to create a diamond shape for the top of the ring design.
- Place a drinking glass upside down on the centre of the sponge cake and push it down slowly to the bottom of the cake, then slowly pull it out to create a nice centre.
- Put frosting on the edge of the diamond that will sit next to the ring and place it on the platter, joining the two edges together.
- Cut the top of the cake off both the ring and diamond shape to leave the raw cake top, which will make the top layer flat.
- Spread a thin layer of frosting over the top of the cakes with a butter knife. This does not need to be neat or perfect.
- Carefully add all your candy lolly layers, starting with the largest first and making sure they are spread out all over. Start with the donut-shaped biscuits, then add chocolate balls and swirls, mini meringues and candy sugar hearts and balls again.
Add as much as you like to create a beautiful design that looks good to the eye.
Optional: You can add any treats, biscuits, etc. to your top layer to suit your colour theme or aesthetic. I used pink, white, and chocolate colours to suit the bridal shower decorations we had, but you could easily do whatever look you like and buy lollies to suit different decorations or dietary restrictions.
Chill the cake in the fridge for at least 30 minutes before serving if you do not have air-con, or hide it away until it's time for the big surprise bridal shower.

Q: Can I make this in any number or letter shape?
A: You sure can. I would recommend you get one or two square store-made sponge cakes for letters or numbers and use a knife to etch the design on the top of the cake before cutting. This will give you the correct dimension of the letter. Look at Pinterest for reference on the shape of each letter that cake decorators and bakers have previously made. The more pixel art shapes the better, especially if you are not cooking the cake from scratch, curves will be hard cutting on a freshly baked soft sponge cake.
