How to make a Jake Adventure Time PJ Dress | SEWING DIY

Who loves Adventure Time?

My 8-year-old daughter does and has been nagging me to make her a Jake from Adventure Time onesie for a long time. I could not find any child-size onesies to buy her. What's with that? There is only adult sleepwear for sale. I know Adventure Time is a cult show but it is a children's TV show after all.

Due to no free time, I kept telling her "I will do it, don't stress...... "  It then got to 2 weeks before Christmas I then started saying "I will do it before Christmas, don't worry....."

Two days before Christmas panic mode set in and I thought F**K!!!! I better sew that onesie around doing my Christmas cooking haha I swear I leave things to the last minute, will I ever learn?

Off I go and sew all day and make a onesie & this cute little nightie with the leftover fabric I think I love this dress more than the onesie.

Materials you need to make a cartoon PJ Dress
  • Soft polar fleece
  • T-shirt to get a pattern size off
  • White Felt or polar fleece
  • Sewing machine
  • Scissors

INSTRUCTIONS TO MAKE A CUSTOM CARTOON PJ DRESS

  • Place a loose T-shirt on your fabric to get the correct size neckline and armhole size
  • Measure from the neck to the knee for the length of the dress
  • From the armhole, make an angled line outwards and downwards to the length of the dress to create an A-line style
  • Cut out the pattern leaving a hem allowance
  • Make a Tail, Ears and Face (Face DIY instructions)
  • Sew the Tail and Face onto the front and back panel pieces
  • Pin the dress panels together facing each other and sew the side seams & shoulder seams in a medium-length straight stitch
  • Fold over the neck, dress hemline and armholes and sew, creating a clean edge
  • Sew the ears to the shoulders so they stick out

I was happy with the end result and my daughter was extremely happy, she is rotating these pyjamas and does not want to wear clothes any more so I guess I can just say she is dressing up and it's a costume if anyone pops over to the house for a visit 😉

  1. My little brother is going to love this one, for sure. Adventure time is his favorite show, and nothing would excite him more than a pajama set of his favorite cartoon show.
