How to customise your jeans with different patterns | FASHION DIY

diy photos on creating patterns on fashion cross jeans
Patterned Prints on Denim Jeans come in and out of fashion all the time. This is a trend that can cost you a lot of money to buy the current cool pattern.

I will show you how you can create your own patterns, whatever the trend at the time is with your old jeans and some creativity.

You may remember from a previous post how I showed you how to add some crosses to your cut-off shorts, well here is how you can add some patterns to your jeans on a larger scale.

INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO CREATE PATTERN DENIM JEANS WITH BLEACH

SUPPLIES YOU NEED
  • Plain jeans - I used a dull black pair
  • Sticky tape or shaped stickers
  • Scissors
  • Bleach in a spray bottle
  • Gloves
  • Outdoor space
INSTRUCTIONS TO MAKE PATTERN DENIM

1/ Lay your jeans flat on the floor. To create crosses I used different-sized sticky tape and randomly placed it on the jeans. You could do this in a pattern and or however you like, I was just testing so did not fully cover the jeans and was trying different sizes to see what worked the best.

You could create spots, hearts or star patterns by placing shaped stickers on the jeans. I would like to try a cute spot pattern soon.

2/ Wearing gloves in an outdoor space, spray the denim with pure bleach. Work fast so you get the developing time even.

3/ Let the denim jeans develop and the bleach to develop. Time depends on the type of denim and really just how you want the jeans to look. This could be 5 minutes to a few hours

4/ Once you are happy with the faded colour, peel off the tape/stickers and wash the jeans.
Once dry they are ready to be worn

Now my crosses look like they are about to take off like a rocket ship 😂😅 but this was because I sprayed too much bleach onto the actual tape and because I hung the jeans up to develop the bleach dripped down the tape and too much bleach ended up under the crosses.

So if you do not want your pattern blasting off then please read below. If you want your pattern to look like they are on fire then hang the jeans upside down. When I looked at these jeans upside down, the crosses really did look like they were on fire, great unique effect.

I decided to test a scrap piece of denim to see how this would work on coloured denim.

With this test, I found that by spraying the jeans while flat, you then get the perfect clean edges, compared to spraying while hanging. 😋 So the conclusion is to lay your jeans flat (outside) and spray bleach onto the jeans this way. Let the bleach develop flat also.

Above I did the inverted pattern too, and both turned out well.  I like how the red turned out, I think doing this on coloured denim is quite cute. To do the inverted pattern, I used Plastic sticky book wrap and cut the cross out of the centre.
